W.O.W. (Women of Worth) was an idea conceived at the beginning of 2008 by Paula
Carpenter. She is the wife of Pastor Rod Carpenter (Solid Rock United Pentecostal Church).
Pastor Rod Carpenter is and has been involved with many community boards and agencies
including – Corpus Christi Partnership Council (CCPC), Coastal Bend Alliance for Youth
(CBAY), Taking Back the Streets in the Name of Jesus Christ Ministries, and the City of
Corpus Christi Neighborhood Initiative Program (NIP) where he is the leader of the
Gardendale area. He is also the author of numerous books and curriculum including A.C.T.S.
(Alcohol Chemical Treatment Series) and the Life In Focus Education series. His work is used
in over 3,000 locations worldwide.
Mrs. Paula Carpenter’s vision was to come up with an avenue to thank area women
community leaders for all their hard work, dedication, and commitment demonstrated by them
to the city of Corpus Christi. Thus, the quarterly W.O.W. Luncheons were initiated.
To-date, there have been two very successful luncheons. In attendance have been attorneys,
therapists, parole officers, City leaders, educators, and journalists.
The W.O.W. Luncheon is free, however, it is by “invitation only.” Mrs. Carpenter’s intention is
to keep the luncheon small and informal. The main purpose of the luncheons is to thank our
women community leaders and also to give them an opportunity to network and get to know
each other in a more relaxed atmosphere than board rooms, courtrooms, or
conferences/seminars.
